Aviemore Centre

Competition Winning, Regeneration Project, Aviemore Highland Resort

In 2003, Christopher Palmer Associates were appointed landscape architects as part of a multidisciplinary team for Phase 1 of the MacDonald Aviemore Highland Resort’s led regeneration of the Aviemore Highland Resort. Phase 1 included refurbishment of the Osprey Conference Centre, The Highland Hotel and Academy Inn, construction of the Arena Swimming Pool, 18 chalet holiday lodges a Retail Centre, car parks and staff accommodation.

Our work included a comprehensive tree survey to establish the health of the existing trees on the site and to assist in the site planning for new development. New development has been slotted into the birch & pine woodland settings and understorey vegetation of heather and blueberry.

The design was developed around a palette of native tree planting appropriate for the location and harsh winter climate and hard detailing utilizing local materials including granite dry stone retaining walls, schist paving and local gravel aggregates

The development was a 2006 Finalist in the UK Regeneration Awards with the Highland Conference Centre voted the best commercially led regeneration project
