Christopher Palmer Associates were commissioned initially in 1997 as landscape consultants for the development of a first phase of luxury cottages set within the wooded policy grounds of Duchally House Hotel.
Working closely with Denholm Partnership Architects we have now completed landscape schemes for a further 6 phases of cottages, a swimming pool and spa and have also written a landscape maintenance manual for the estate.
The first piece of work was to commission a full arboricultural survey to assess the quality and future lifespan of the many fine trees within the grounds and to advise on the layout of the cottages in order to safeguard and protect the trees and setting.
The cottages have a domestic scale, laid out in small groups and terraces, each with it’s own character and the landscaping and choice of plant material reflects this scale. The cottages are let for 12 months a year and a planting palette of shrubs and herbaceous planting with all year round interest was devised.
